Scotland
Sculpted by the wind and waves of a great creator goddess, the Scottish mainland and all its islands possess dramatic cliffs and sea stacks as yet emerging from the surrounding sea. Glacial retreat has left us with surprises yet to be discovered, and the peaty earth still spits up relics from past inhabitants when stone, bone, wood, and clay were the known materials for sustaining life. Each peninsula and loch has its own feel, culturally interlocked by stone buildings that seem to last centuries. What humankind has sculpted on promontory places overlooking crashing waves is left for us to ponder its histories built upon histories.
